Vallejo celebrates Pista Sa Nayon June 2


VALLEJO — Philippine recording artist Jessa Zaragoza, comedienne and singer Fe de los Reyes, and local teen singing sensation, Gabi Wilson will perform at this year’s Pista Sa Nayon Philippine Cultural Celebration on June 2nd at the Vallejo Waterfront from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival coincides with the 109th year of Philippine independence from Spain. Recognized as one of Northern California’s largest and most entertaining Asian cultural events, Pista Sa Nayon will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Filipino American community. Colorful traditional and contemporary folk dances will be performed alongside hip-hop, and many other musical performances. The renowned Kariktan Dance Company will perform traditional folk dances, and the Jesse Bethel High School Marching Band will kick off the ceremony. More than 60 booths will feature Filipino American food such as lumpia, pancit, and halo-halo along with many other delicacies, arts and crafts, traditional Philippine apparel, and other native products. The festival directors this year are Norma Placido and Eva Calilan. The 2007 Philippine Cultural Committee general chairperson is Jess Ramos. Through popular demand, the Arts and Culture tent is back and will feature children’s activities. “This is going to be fun in the sun," said festival director Norma Placido. “This is an outdoor event, so don’t forget to bring your portable chairs, hats, and umbrellas with you," said co-festival director Eva Calilan. “Come out and join us.
