Pinoy places second in int'l logo design contest in Iran


Filipino student Andrew M. Wee won second place in the International Logo Design Competition of World Olympiad for Urban Design (WOUD) held in Iran, besting 208 designs from various countries. The International Art and Architecture Research Association (IAARA) organized the competition in cooperation with the Minister of Interior Office of the Governor General of Fars Province and the United Nations Human Settlements Program. Philippine Ambassador to Tehran Aladin G. Villacorte reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that Wee ranked second to Sani Karosoglu from Cyprus. Iran's entry won third place. Iran had 165 of the 208 entries. The logo design competition was held in preparation for the first World Olympiad for Urban Design event in Persepolis, Shiraz, Fars Province in 2009. The winning design of Karosoglu will be the official logo for WOUD. The competition was held on April 8, 2007 but the awarding ceremony was held at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts in Tehran on July 15, 2007. Villacorte said WOUD 2009 event's objective is to enhance the quality of urban spaces in the cities of the world. The first gathering will be held in Iran but it is intended as a sustainable program to be held every four years in one of the member countries of UN Habitat. - GMANews.TV
