Isko Moreno reiterates: Clear Bonifacio Monument of vendors, informal settlers

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday reiterated his directive to clear the Andres Bonifacio Monument of squatters and vendors.

Moreno earlier said those living and selling goods in the historical landmark must vacate the area by July 10.

“Parks, alleys,boulevards, bangketas and roads are beyond the commerce of men,” he said, citing a Supreme Court ruling.

“Nasanay na ng anim na taon. Napakinabangan ninyo na ‘yan,” Moreno added.

Even the jeepney terminals in the area will be dismantled. “Walang terminal sa kalye,” Moreno stressed.

“There are no plans na maglagay sa kalye (ng terminal.) It is crazy for government to do that,” he added. — Tina Panganiban-Perez/RSJ, GMA News
