Makati rolls out jeepneys as e-learning hubs for students, parents

The Makati City government has rolled out mobile learning hubs for students and parents as the country transitions to blended learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, under the “Dyipni Maki” project, jeepneys repurposed as learning hubs will be deployed to different barangays in the city.

The mobile learning hubs are equipped with laptops, tablets, printers, books, internet connection and other materials students and parents can borrow.

The hubs can also serve as venues for learning activities for students in kinder to grade 12.

“Hindi naman lahat ng parents natin may capability to understand and teach their children,” Rita Riddle, Makati Education program director, said.

Displaced jeepney drivers and teachers were also hired by the city government for this project.

“My dream po talaga is to become a public teacher po so this program is something that leads me to achieving that goal kasi public service po ito,” Mary Jane Imson, a teacher, said. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMA News
