MANILA, Philippines-American Idol’s Dolly Parton week still didn’t do wonders for Filipino-American finalist Ramiele Malubay who garnered mixed reviews from Idol judges, with sharp-tongued Simon Cowell calling her performance “forgettable." “We’re not gonna remember this in 10 years, are we?" Cowell said in reference to Ramiele’s rendition of Do I Ever Cross Your Mind, a song written by the iconic country songstress. Although Cowell admitted that the 20-year-old former Florida sushi waitress didn’t have pitch problems this week, he stressed that her performance, "was very reminiscent of something you would see and hear in the cruise ship." The nine remaining finalists in the hit reality-based singing competition chose from the Parton’s songbook which included classic country songs Coat of Many Colors (picked by Kristy Lee Cook), Jolene (Brooke White), and the Whitney Houston popularized I Will Always Love You (Syesha Mercado). Parton commended the petite Fil-Am for picking Do I Ever Cross Your Mind and praised her for having the spunk and personality to carry the song. “I thought she picked a good little song because she’s tiny like me," the diminutive chanteuse candidly said in the video clip shown right before Ramiele’s performance. “The fact that she’s little ain’t gonna stop her from doing big things," Parton said. Randy Jackson, who thought Ramiele delivered a so-so performance for the past two weeks, rated the performance six and a half out of 10. “I wasn’t jumpin’ up and down but I wasn’t mad at you either, man. It was kinda alright," he said. Paula Abdul was proud of Ramiele’s minute-and-a-half performance. “You really had a great minute-and-thirty-seconds and you connected with the audience and you were having fun," Abdul complimented Ramiele. This week, the boys led by David Archuleta (bouncing back with Smokey Mountain Memories), David Cook (Little Sparrow), and Michael Johns (It’s All Wrong, But It’s All Right) got the top praises from all three Idol judges. Carly Smithson, who sang Here You Come Again, was panned by Cowell for her lackluster wardrobe while Jason Castro (Travellin’ Thru) also received no praises from the British judge. American Idol airs on QTV-11 every Wednesday and Thursday via Satellite Feed at 6 p.m., with replays at 8:00 pm on the same days. - GMANews.TV
