Martin Romualdez on facing flood control inquiry: I have nothing to hide
Leyte Representative and former Speaker Martin Romualdez on Tuesday faced the Independent Commission for Infrastructure inquiry over his alleged involvement in the flood control mess, saying he has nothing to hide.
“I am here to cooperate fully and help uncover the truth. Wala akong itinatago at walang dapat itago (I am not hiding anything and nothing to hide),” Romualdez said in a statement.
“While I was not part of the bicameral conference committee, whatever I know, I will share. My purpose is to clarify the issues and share whatever information I can that may help the Commission in its work,” he added.
The former top House leader also said he had always believed in transparency and accountability, thus his presence in the ICI.
“I am here today — to do my part in ensuring that the truth comes out. I am willing to do anything that will help speed up the investigation, because like every Filipino, I want the truth to be established without delay,” Romualdez, a lawyer, said.
“At the end of the day, it is evidence — not political noise or unfounded accusations — that will reveal what really happened,” he added.
In a separate interview with reporters, Romualdez reiterated his commitment to be of help.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa ICI para sa imbitasyon ngayong araw na ito (I thank the ICI for their invitation today). I am ready to give my personal knowledge about the budget process,” Romualdez said.
“And while I am not a member of the Bicameral Conference Committee, I will share any and all information to help determine the truth. I am here to help, in any way, to speed up the resolution of the fact finding investigation of the ICI,” he added.
Romualdez earlier denied involvement in securing commissions from flood control projects as alleged by contractor husband and wife Curlee and Sarah Discaya during the Senate inquiry on the flood control mess.
Romualdez denied similar allegations made by Orly Regala Guteza who identified himself as a former security consultant for resigned Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
