QC police thwart attempted break-in at Novaliches pawnshop

Police recently foiled an attempt to break into a pawnshop in Novaliches, Quezon City upon discovering a tunnel that led to the pawnshop, the Quezon City Police District (QPCD) said.

In a statement on Sunday, the QCPD said the attempted break-in was thwarted after a security guard on duty heard unusual noises coming from a manhole inside a pawnshop in Barangay Nova Proper in the late hours of April 22.

The matter was immediately reported to the Novaliches Police Station the next day, which then sent policemen to the scene.

Police found a tunnel allegedly dug by unidentified suspects.

Authorities recovered tools believed to have been used in the operation, including a portable grinder, rechargeable batteries, cutting discs, hydraulic jacks, crowbars, and screwdrivers.

Investigation showed that the tunnel extended towards the pawnshop, which the QCPD said indicated a deliberate and organized effort to execute the crime.

No items were reported stolen, as the attempt was discovered early and promptly acted upon by the pawnshop’s security personnel and the police.

The QCPD is conducting a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attempted break-in.

QCPD director Randy Glenn Silvio expressed his appreciation for the vigilance of the owners and reminded all business establishments to be on alert and immediately report any untoward or suspicious activities to police.

“This incident underscores the importance of alert security personnel and immediate coordination with the police. We assure the public that QCPD remains proactive in preventing crimes and ensuring the safety of our communities,” Silvio added. — JMA, GMA News
