DILG to PNP: Exercise 'maximum tolerance' in EDSA protest

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to exercise "maximum tolerance" in the ongoing EDSA rally.

"The DILG has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP), in close coordination with the concerned local government unit, to exercise maximum tolerance and implement appropriate security and traffic management measures to help ensure that the activity remains peaceful, orderly, and safe for all," the DILG said in a statement.

"The DILG calls on all participants and stakeholders to exercise their rights responsibly, uphold the rule of law, and cooperate with authorities throughout the activity," it added.

Groups gathered along the EDSA People Power Monument early Tuesday which resulted in heavy traffic on Tuesday morning.

The groups started gathering around 2 am, according to EJ Gomez' report on Unang Balita.

At 5:15, MMDA announced that White Plains eastbound and westbound were "temporarily closed to traffic."
