Metro Manila cops ordered to professionally implement security checks for ASEAN 2026
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) leadership ordered its personnel to professionally conduct security protocols during the 49th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits on November 16 to 18.
"Our security perimeter is there for a clear purpose: to prevent unauthorized access and keep potential threats away from our delegates, personnel, and the public. I expect our personnel to enforce every security protocol without exception, but always with professionalism, courtesy, and respect for people's rights,” said NCRPO officer-in-charge Police Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano in a statement.
The NCRPO chief directed cops to carefully verify identification documents, credentials, and vehicle authorizations, while maintaining close coordination with venue security teams and local government authorities.
There will be exclusion zones at the Philippine International Convention Center — the venue for the international event — where entry is subject to screening.
Abrahano also ordered security personnel to validate reports of any suspicious individuals, unusual activities, or unattended items near the venues.
The ASEAN National Organizing Council earlier said that it has monitored possible protests during the summit.
Aside from Metro Manila, security measures are also in place in Clark, Pampanga and in Subic, Zambales.
The NCRPO advised the public to coordinate with law enforcers and observe security protocols for everyone's safety.
“We cannot afford gaps in our security arrangements. Every checkpoint, every access point, and every report of suspicious activity must be properly attended to. Our responsibility is to secure the Summit while ensuring that the public can continue with their daily activities as safely and normally as possible,” said Abrahano. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG, GMA News
