The fire started shortly after midnight at a barong-barong along Baltazar Street in Pinagbuhatan village, radio dzBB's Paulo Santos reported.

Firefighters said the fire started shortly after midnight and reached the third alarm before it was put out at about 2 a.m.

An initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of a certain Jeffrey, who was allegedly using a candle as electricity to his house had been cut off.

The fire quickly spread to at least 15 houses in the area.

Firefighters recovered the bodies of a couple and their three children, initially identified as Anne and Joseph Ednoy; and children Joan Mae, 6; Eloisa Mae, 3; and Ryan. GMA News' Jay Sabale said a person earlier reported to be missing was found dead.
