(Updated 9:52 a.m.) - Efforts to remove flood water from the underpass of C.M. Recto Avenue in Manila were hampered early Friday after a pump being used in the operations conked out.

The pump had been working since Tuesday but stopped at 2 a.m. Friday, according to a report by radio dzBB's Cecilia Villarosa.

An initial check showed the pump's power unit had failed. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said it may replace the equipment.

Floods from days of heavy rain had rendered the underpass at C.M. Recto Avenue not passable to vehicles. The floods reached seven to eight feet as of Friday.

The underpass remained closed to traffic early Friday, the report added. Parts of C.M. Recto Avenue itself are passable. –KG, GMA News
