After several days of preparing to evacuate residents, Marikina City officials finally lifted all alert levels on Marikina River before noon Friday.
This was after the river's water level finally went below 15 meters as of 11 a.m., the city government said on its Twitter account.
"(For now), 14.9 meters (is the) present water level of Marikina River. All alert levels are lifted. Praise God! Time for the shoe capital to get back on its feet," it said.
The river's water level had risen above 15 meters in past days.
On Thursday, the city government had to forcibly evacuate residents after the river's water level went above 20 meters, way above the "critical" 18 meters.
Under the city's alarm level, Alarm Level 1 is raised if the water level is between 15 to 16 meters (Warning).
Alarm Level 2 (prepare) is raised when the water level goes above 16 to 17 meters. Alarm Level 3 (voluntary evacuate) is raised when the Water level goes beyond 17 meters.
The highest level, 4, is raised when the water level goes beyond 18 meters and will entail forced evacuation. — RSJ, GMA News
