As the weather started to improve following the departure of tropical cyclone Helen (Kai-Tak), prices of vegetables have started going down in Metro Manila markets.

While the prices of some vegetables from the north remained high as of Friday, vendors expect the prices to go further down by next week, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

In Marikina City, prices of string beans at the Marikina Public Market had gone "down" from P110 per kilo to P80 to 90 per kilo.

This was still three times the normal price of the vegetable, the report said.

Vendors earlier blamed a problem with supply due to roads between Northern Luzon and Metro Manila being closed due to bad weather conditions.

Prices of other vegetables remained relatively high, such as upo at P45 per kilo, and carrots at P65 per kilo.

But prices of other vegetables have gone down, such as tomato, from P25 to P15 per kilo.

PAGASA earlier said the weather may remain good in the coming days as there is no weather disturbance spotted near Philippine territory. –KG, GMA News
