A man and his daughter were killed in a shootout with at least five suspected robbers in their warehouse in Manila's Sta. Cruz district before dawn Sunday. The victims were identified as Onofre Cruz and his daughter Sierra.

The victims did manage to shoot and kill one of their assailants, radio dzBB's Paulo Santos reported. Police said the slain suspect was initially identified as Arnold Libon, 35.

Manila Police District homicide investigators said the incident occurred at a warehouse at Felix Huertas Street in Barangay 318.

Investigators cited closed-circuit television footage indicating one of the suspects entered the warehouse and declared the holdup.

Onofre tried to disarm the suspect, but the other four accomplices showed up and opened fire.

Meanwhile, Sierra reportedly was able to wrest a firearm from the gunmen and fired at the suspects, but she, too, was shot.

The Cruzes died while undergoing treatment at the Metropolitan Medical Center, the report said.

Hot pursuit operations are ongoing against the four remaining suspects, who fled with an undetermined amount of money.

Meanwhile, the other members of the Cruz family have asked the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct a separate investigation into the incident. — DVM, GMA News
