LTFRB eyes suspending franchises of buses in EDSA accident

Two bus firms face the possibility of having their franchises suspended, following an accident that injured at least 16 people along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue in Quezon City Tuesday.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board head Jaime Jacob said they are waiting for the police report on the incident, radio dzBB reported Wednesday.

Jacob was quoted in the report as saying the LTFRB may also ask Cher and Pascual Liner to air their sides on the incident, then act based on the evidence gathered.

On Tuesday, at least 16 people were reported injured after a Cher passenger bus hit a Pascual Liner bus along busy EDSA in Quezon City Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. along the southbound lane of EDSA near the flyover at the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue.

One of the injured was the driver of the Cher bus (TYF-968) that hit the Pascual Liner bus (TXH-335) from behind.

An initial investigation showed the Pascual Liner bus had just stopped near the flyover when the Cher bus hit it from behind.

The driver of the Cher bus, initially identified as Roberto Cinco, was pinned in his seat, while at least 15 passengers of the Cher bus were injured.

A road emergency team from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority helped bring the injured to a nearby hospital.  — ER/HS, GMA News
