1 killed, 2 hurt in Pasay hostage-taking incident
A man who stabbed and took a woman hostage was gunned down by police in Pasay City early Wednesday. Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) operatives gunned down the hostage-taker after failing to convince him to give up peacefully, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported. The report said Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca initially identified the slain hostage-taker as Manolo Marcaida Gonzalez, who succumbed to six gunshot wounds. On the other hand, the 33-year-old woman who Gonzalez took hostage was rushed to the Pasay City General Hospital after sustaining a stab wound in the chest and cuts in the arm. An initial investigation showed two patrolling policemen accosted Gonzalez at the corner of Buendia Avenue and F.B. Harrison Street after seeing him with a bladed weapon. Gonzalez tried to flee, stabbing a watchman initially identified as Joselito Angeles, who tried to stop him. The suspect then forced his way into the 33-year-old woman's house and took her hostage. Police SWAT and Special Operations Unit teams rushed to the site, and eventually decided to "neutralize" the suspect. — LBG, GMA News
