Family of student killed in QC mixer-jeep accident forgives driver
Saying they have forgiven him, the family of a 20-year-old student who was killed in a grisly mixer-jeep accident in Quezon City last Tuesday on Wednesday said they will not pursue charges against the driver. Victim Mary Cherry Inzon's mother Sally said it would be much better to forgive than to hold a grudge, according to a report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus. "I forgive him, wala akong galit (I hold no grudge)," Mrs. Inzon said. "Mas magaan sa loob to forgive than to keep painfully. Ayaw niyan ng Panginoon. Ang Panginoon nag-forgive, kapapako sa krus (It would be better to forgive than keep the pain. God would not like that. God has shown He can forgive even when He was nailed to the cross)," she added. Mary Cherry was killed in an accident where a mixer truck went out of control and hit a jeep on Araneta Avenue. Police said at least seven others were injured, two of them seriously. The dzBB report said the driver, Reynald Guarte, sought forgiveness from Inzon's family, saying what happened was an accident. Police earlier said they are preparing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, damage to property and multiple serious physical injuries against him. But Mrs. Inzon said that if one forgives people, God will give him or her the grace to recover. "If you know how to forgive people, God will give you the grace na makaahon sa deep hurt (to recover from this deep hurt)," she said. — LBG, GMA News
