Residents of Sitio San Roque have barricaded themselves along Agham Road at 6 a.m. Monday in an attempt to prevent any demolition effort. According to some settlers, a memorandum gave them until June 30 to leave their homes.
Police, however, told GMA News' Ivan Mayrina that there were no demolition orders for Monday and they responded to the scene solely to bring down the barricade that has affected the traffic.
Mayrina noted that there were no demolition teams visible on site.
'Professional squatters'
Mayor Herbert Bautista earlier told News to Go's Howie Severino on Monday that most of the informal settlers have already been relocated.
“From 10,000 families kasi iyan Howie, nailipat na ang 8,000. Ang naiwan na lang diyan, nasa mga 1,500,” said Bautista. “'Yung 1500 'yung mga nasa gilid na merong mga karinderia, sari-sari store, so they are no longer beneficiaries of the housing projects of the local and national government.”
“Mga professional squatters na itong mga ito. Pinagsasamantalahan nila 'yung tunay na benepisyaryo,” he added.
Tension at Quezon City Hall has already simmered as of 2:30 p.m., according to DZBB.
