San Juan ready to relocate initial 87 informal settler families
(Updated 8:35 a.m.) - San Juan City is ready to assist in the relocation of an initial batch of 87 urban poor families from city danger zones.
The city government said the relocations will begin along A. Luna Street in Barangay Salapan at 8 a.m., Monday.
"The City of San Juan is all set to assist the National Government in implementing Oplan LIKAS (Lumikas para Iwas Kalamidad At Sakuna)," the city said through its Facebook page.
The 87 informal settler families are living along the three-meter easement of the San Juan River, considered a danger zone.
A separate report on dzBB radio early Monday said the 87 families are to be relocated to Bulacan province.
The report said the families had been packing their belongings since Sunday.
San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez and local officials will witness Monday's relocation efforts.
A second batch of about 600 families is to be relocated in September.
The government reassured the families there will be livelihood opportunities in the relocation sites. — DVM/KG, GMA News
