Broken Maynilad pipe interrupts water service in Pasay, Parañaque areas

A Maynilad Water Service primary pipeline along the north-bound lane of Roxas Boulevard broke Monday morning, interrupting services in several Pasay and Parañaque areas, as well as forcing the closure of a section of the road.

According to Maynilad, the magnitude of the damage will continue to interrupt water services in several areas starting 9 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday. Areas without water include:

Pasay

  • Baclaran
  • Tambo,
  • Malibay
  • Maricaban
  • BAC 1- 11
  • Don Carlos Revilla
  • NAIA Terminal 1 and 2
  • Pildera 1 and 2

Parañaque
  • Don Galo
  • La Huerta
  • Sto. Niño
  • San Dionisio
  • San Isidro
  • BF Homes
  • Moonwalk

In a Monday report on GMA 7's "24 Oras", Maynilad admitted that cracks in the 28-year-old pipeline had been detected as early as last year.

But the agency opted to postpone the pipe's replacement until the summer of 2014, ideally during the Holy Week, so as not to cause heavy traffic along Roxas Boulevard.

"Dahil sa normal wear and tear at dahil high traffic area yung lugar, nagkaroon siya ng underground leak," said Maynilad corporate communications head Cherubim Mojica. — Elizabeth Marcelo/DVM, GMA News
