36 bus operators in NCR have yet to renew their labor standards certificates – DOLE

At least 36 bus operators in Metro Manila were reminded Wednesday to renew their Labor Standard Compliance Certificates, documents showing they are paying their drivers and conductors the proper wages and benefits.
 
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said renewing LSCCs show bus companies are complying with labor laws and occupational safety and health standards.
 
“There are 36 bus companies in Metro Manila that have not renewed their LSCCs. I urge them to do so because compliance with labor laws and occupational safety and health standards is good for business,” she said.
 
Besides, she said an LSCC, which is good for one year, is a requirement of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board for the renewal of bus franchises.
 
Under the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board's Memorandum Circular No. 2012-01, failure of bus operators to submit LSCCs shall be a ground for the cancellation or revocation of their franchises.

The 36 Metro Manila bus companies that have not renewed their LSCCs have 1,142 bus units and employ 1,141 drivers and 1,300 conductors are:

45 bus firms renewed their LSSCs
 
The DOLE said that as of April 7, records of the Metro Manila Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board showed that 45 bus companies have renewed their LSCCs for 2013-2014. Two more bus companies have new LSCCs issued.
 
In total, these 47 bus companies operate 2,447 buses and employ 2,776 drivers and 2,433 conductors.
