DPWH, MMDA rush flood control projects for start of school, rainy season
With school due to start in a few days' time, the Department of Public Works and Highways and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority are working double time to rush the completion of flood control projects.
In Manila, work continued on the drainage system along España Boulevard, GMA News' Mav Gonzales reported on "Unang Balita" Thursday morning.
The report said the work on the drainage system, which affected traffic at the inner lane of España and part of Morayta Street, has been going 24 hours a day.
A separate report on "Unang Hirit" said the MMDA and DPWH are working on other esteros and drainage systems to minimize the chances of flooding, noting the rainy season is due to start in June.
Coast Guard readies help desks
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard is preparing help desks to assist students returning to Metro Manila from the provinces, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.
The report quoted PCG spokesman Cmdr. Armand Balilo as saying they will keep watch over motorized bancas used to ferry students to major ports. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
