With the help of closed-circuit television cameras, police rescued this week a one-year-old boy who was abducted in Pasay City's Libertad area last Monday.

The Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group also arrested the 18-year-old suspect, who it said abducted the boy at Natividad Street in Barangay 63.

Investigation showed the 18-year-old suspect, to whom the boy's parents sometimes entrusted, told the baby's mother she would bring him to the mall for a stroll.

But once she had custody of the child, she allegedly looked for prospective parents who would "buy" the child.

After searching the Internet, she found a "buyer" who would take the child in exchange for the suspect's travel fare to Leyte.

The suspect completed the transaction with the "buyer" at a bus terminal in Pasay, but police used footage from the CCTV cameras there to track down the suspect.

Police then called the "buyer" and negotiated for the return of the boy, who was left at the Pasig City General Hospital.

The 18-year-old is now in the custody of police and faces charges for violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
