‘Crazy’ Safeway bus caught on video faces apprehension, administrative hearing

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board are investigating a bus seen on video weaving erratically along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue.

In a statement, the MMDA said the LTFRB will probe the reckless driving, while it will investigate the alleged inaction of one of its constables on the matter.

"Rest assured that we will be investigating the unprofessional conduct of the enforcer whom you had an encounter with. This person will be identified and properly dealt with. On the other hand, given the untoward behavior of the driver of Safeway bus with body number 14209, we have forwarded the video to LTFRB so they can act accordingly, since they are the issuer and regulator of all bus franchises," MMDA Traffic Discipline Office head Francisco Manalo said.

The MMDA was referring to the complaint against a "Safeway" bus (Body No. 14209), lodged by Gaby Herbosa, Ma. Inez Herbosa, and Mikko Abello.

A video of the incident posted on YouTube this week showed the bus weaving in and out of traffic along busy EDSA.

Manalo said that after they discussed the matter with the LTFRB, LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez said the board will initiate an administrative court hearing against Safeway Bus.

"On the other hand, I am directing all MMDA traffic enforcers and our Metrobase to look out and apprehend the bus, bring it and its driver to MMDA, for appropriate action," he said. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
