6 women rescued in NBI raid on Makati KTV

At least six women from Davao City were rescued in a raid by the National Bureau of Investigation on a KTV bar in Makati City Wednesday night.

The NBI's Anti-Human Trafficking Division and Department of Social Welfare and Development acted on a tip from Davao City, GMA News' Dante Perello reported on "Saksi."

Investigation showed the six were recruited from Davao City to work in Manila as household helpers, but were instead forced to work as guest relations officers at the KTV bar.

The "Saksi" report said relatives of the victims told the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) the girls were forced to have sex with customers, but the girls denied this.

"Entertain lang po, nagbibigay ng inumin... wala na po talaga," the rescued girls said.

However, the girls said that while they wanted to go home to Davao, their "recruiter" refused to let them go until they paid their "debts."

At least 30 GROs and seven employees were brought to NBI headquarters in Manila for questioning. However, the owner of the establishment was not around at the time of the raid.

Still, the report said the owner of the bar may face charges including human trafficking, child abuse and serious illegal detention.

A separate report by radio dzBB's Henry Herdillo early Thursday said at least two minors were among those rescued, and were turned over to the DSWD. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
