Surprise inspections catch colorum buses in QC

Some colorum buses—those plying routes outside their franchises—were caught in surprise inspections by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in northern Metro Manila early Wednesday.

Many passengers were inconvenienced after MMDA teams flagged down their buses at the Balintawak area, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

The operations started as early as 3 a.m., with teams catching at least one bus (CXT-677) going "out of line" or outside the route specified in its approved franchise.

For its part, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board conducted its own inspection at the Camachile area in Quezon City.

A separate report by GMA News' Oscar Oida said the LTFRB and Land Transportation Office caught and impounded two buses in the Camachile area.

The LTFRB and MMDA had been cracking down on colorum public utility vehicles in past months.

Last July 9, the LTFRB flagged down at least two suspected colorum buses near the North Luzon Expressway in a surprise inspection.
