Experts from Hong Kong's MTR to begin audit of MRT on Wednesday
Experts from Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) will audit the Metro Rail Transit on Wednesday, railway management said Tuesday.
According to Steve Dailisan's report on "24 Oras" Monday evening, the experts are expected to check the MRT's maintenance record and inspect the physical condition of MRT-3.
That inspection will include the trains, tracks, railways, and the signaling system. They will also talk to employees, especially train operators, to get to know the real state of the MRT.
The audit follows a series of unfortunate events that include the sudden suspension of operations due to a glitch in the communication system last Saturday and a derailment on August 13 that left more than 30 people injured.
The MRT management clarified that the audit will not affect the daily operations of the trains. The experts will only conduct the audit during off-peak hours and at night.
MRT's officer-in-charge Honorito Chaneco said, "Ang agreement namin walang intervention sa operation... sa gabi puwede naman nilang tignan lahat nandiyan na."
The results of the audit will be released after one month. While waiting for the results, the MRT management said that trains will continuously undergo maintenance.
The management still cautioned that the audit won't prevent the MRT from glitches and other problems. The train system still has to undergo an upgrade plus more trains should be added to ensure it's problem free. — Trisha Macas/JDS, GMA News
