Like the police findings, the National Bureau of Investigation is also considering the killing of international racing champ Enzo Pastor as the result of a "love triangle."

"It is the same. The NBI conducted a parallel probe at pareho ang naging resulta. Ganoon talaga naging direksiyon nila," said Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, adding that she will also ask the NBI investigators if they are also pursuing other angles.

De Lima said if the arrested gunman and mastermind identified by the police would turn out to be the same ones tracked down by the NBI, criminal charges can be filed against the two.

However, De Lima said the NBI and the Philippine National Police may have to compare notes first on the case before releasing the findings. "Baka kailangan muna mag-share ng information with the (PNP's) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group," she said.

De Lima said investigators have not yet decided on whether to include Pastor's wife in the charges being prepared.

"It depends on the result of the investigation. The NBI shared with me certain information but I am not sure if they are prepared to file a case against her," De Lima said.

In the PNP findings, Pastor's wife Dalia was tagged as a suspect after police investigators claimed to have established that she has an affair with alleged mastermind, businessman Domingo de Guzman III.

Earlier in the day, the Quezon City police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit announced De Guzman's arrest, which came a few days after the gunman, identified as PO2 Edgar Angel of the Pasay City Police, was arrested in an anti-drug operation over the weekend.

During the tactical interrogation, the policeman admitted that he shot and killed Pastor. He gave his account of the incident in a judicial affidavit, where he named who hired him. Angel said he was paid around P100,000 to carry out the murder.

Pastor was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men in Quezon City on June 12. Pastor was driving a truck and had stopped at the corner of Visayas Avenue and Congressional Extension Avenue when a gunman approached and shot him.

Pastor was reportedly transporting a race car to Pampanga from Batangas when he stopped at a traffic light at 10 p.m. He succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head, neck and arms. Police recovered shells from a cal-.45 pistol from the crime scene.

An initial investigation showed that after shooting Pastor, the gunman "casually" walked to a motorcycle driven by a companion, then fled.

Pastor was the first Filipino to participate in the NASCAR Whelen Euroseries Open Championship race circuit.

Pastor had recently won the Asian V8 Racing Championship, and was about to join a race last July in Clark. — RSJ, GMA News
