And the real MRT challenge continues.

Commuters taking the Metro Rail Transit were inconvenienced anew on Monday when the Metro Rail Transit limited its trips between Mandaluyong and Pasay Cities.

Light Rail Transit Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the limited operation was implemented starting 4:50 p.m. just as many employees started leaving their work placed.

Full service was restored an hour later at 5:50 p.m.

The MRT posted on its Twitter account an advisory indicating it is going on provisional service between Shaw Boulevard and Taft Avenue.

"PROVISIONAL SERVICE - We are running from Shaw Blvd. Station to Taft Avenue Stations and vice versa. FYI," the Twitter post read.

Cabrera said this was due to the calibration of the MRT's signaling system.

"MRT3 signaling system being calibrated, all trains required to stop at nearest station," he said in a post on Twitter.

The MRT links North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City.

But in recent weeks, it has been the subject of complaints due to frequent disruptions of trips, including one incident last month where a coach overshot the safety barrier and injured nearly 40 people.

Last week, the MRT's trips were disrupted due to flooded tracks. The week before that, it was a communication glitch that forced the suspension of operations the rest of the day.

A few government officials took the MRT trains either to prove that it was still an efficient way to commute on EDSa despite its glitches and accidents, and to find out how it is to use the trains as hundreds of thousands do on a daily basis. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
