And the cat-and-mouse game between automated teller machine (ATM) thieves and authorities continues — with the thieves now using a unique weapon.

One such thief used langka sap to snare bills being dispensed by an ATM, until he was caught by Marikina City police, GMA News' Ivan Mayrina reported on "24 Oras" Monday.

"Sinusukat ko yan sa dispenser sa labasan. Tapos ... lalagyan ko ng pandikit, dagta ng langka," suspected ATM thief Vivencio Cruel said.

While he initially encountered success, Cruel was caught by a closed-circuit television camera using his modus operandi last September 30.

He was caught with his crude money-capturing gadget along with P800.

Investigation showed Cruel had managed to use the modus operandi for three months, with his biggest single withdrawal at P5,000.

Following the arrest, police reminded the public to be careful in withdrawing money from ATMs. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
