Ex-QCPD chief sheds tears during turnover rites

Even grown men do cry. And on Friday, former Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano was one of them.

Albano became emotional at turnover rites for his successor Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao, GMA News' Michael Fajatin reported on "24 Oras."

With his family gathered around him, Albano thanked the QCPD personnel for their support. "From the bottom of my heart, maraming salamat," he said.

Albano was one of four Metro Manila district directors sacked by the Department of Interior and Local Government due to their supposed inability to curb criminality.

But Albano clarified he was not sore at being ousted from his post, saying he understood the decision of higher-ups.

It is unclear where Albano will be reassigned. He is due to retire in 2016.

Under his watch, the QCPD had been dragged into several controversial cases, including the September "hulidap" along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue in Mandaluyong City.

An investigation had showed police personnel from the QCPD's La Loma station were involved.

Meanwhile, Pagdilao said he would practice the principles of leadership and management at his new post.

"Kailangan i-motivate natin ang tao natin para gawin ang trabaho nila nang tama," he said. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
