UP President Alfredo Pascual, in a statement, referred to the killing of William F. Nicolas in broad daylight last Dec. 5, just outside his house.
"On behalf of the University of the Philippines, I condemn in strongest terms, the murder of William F. Nicolas by unknown assassins in broad daylight on 5 December 2014 just outside his home subdivision, the Commonwealth Heights in Quezon City," the university president said.

He lauded Nicolas' "life-long commitment" to the UP through the years. Pascual said Nicolas served as:

- ex-officio member of the Board of the UP Alumni Association
Nicolas' wife Malou is a Professor at the UP Manila College of Arts and Sciences and served as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs of the UP System from 2011-2014, Pascual said.
At the time he was killed, Nicolas was secretary of the Commonwealth Heights Subdivision Homeowners Association and "was known for his strong and committed involvement in the activities and projects of the association," Pascual said.
A report on Tempo said Nicolas, 63, was gunned down by an unknown man past noon of Dec. 5.
The Tempo report quoted a subdivision guard as saying Nicolas passed by his post driving a Mercedes Benz. Moments later, the guard heard gunshots and saw a man shooting Nicolas and fleeing aboard a motorcycle.
"We urge the local law enforcement agencies, particularly the Quezon City Police District, to expedite the investigation into Willy’s death and undertake all actions needed so that the perpetrators of this detestable crime are identified and prosecuted in accordance with law," Pascual said.
He added the UP community, with its long history of struggle against dastardly acts committed against its members, will take Nicolas' death "as another call for unification and action."
"We will keep monitoring the concerned agencies of government for their swift administration of justice. Those responsible for this cowardly act against a peace-loving citizen must bear the full consequences of their crime!" he said. — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
