An early Christmas gift? The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has announced that it will lift number coding from Dec. 23 to Jan. 4.

The MMDA announced the lifting Friday, radio dzBB's Rowena Salvacion tweeted.

Under the number coding scheme, also known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program, private vehicles are banned from Metro Manila's major roads from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. one day a week depending on the last digit of their license plate number.

Traffic has been particularly heavy in recent days because of the Christmas rush. — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
