A CCTV footage has recorded the last moments of a barangay tanod in Manila before a suspected stray bullet felled him amid New Year revelries in his place. The victim eventually died at a hospital, a report on GMA News' “News to Go” said Friday.

The report identified the victim as Edward Lagman, 28.

In the video, several people were lighting up fireworks with some taking videos when the victim suddenly staggered and backed away from the CCTV's range of view.

According to one of his colleagues, Lagman got hit by the bullet shortly before midnight. He eventually died at a hospital due to the bullet wound.

“Sisindihan pa lang 'yung paputok, pinicturan ko pa, tinamaan na siya noon. After na sindihan lumapit siya sa akin sabi niya 'kuya Mac may tama ako.' Itinakbo na namin siya sa ospital,” the report quoted one of the victim's colleagues as saying.

However, the Philippine National Police is waiting on the autopsy report to determine whether this incident was a shooting or stray bullet case.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old woman who was hit by a stray bullet on her forehead while she was at their house's kitchen in Pasig City was declared out of danger.

So far, the Health Department has recorded a total of 593 fireworks-related incidents as of Friday, January 2.

This include 580 cases of direct fireworks injuries, three cases of firework ingestion and 10 cases of stray bullets.

For its part, the PNP recorded a total of 14 stray bullet cases from December 16 to 31. Government agencies are expecting more cases to be reported until Monday, January 5. — Drei Medina/LBG, GMA News
