The Quiapo Church's image of the Black Nazarene was brought to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila before dawn Thursday for the yearly Pahalik and vigil.

No untoward incident occurred as the image was brought out of the Quiapo Church and arrived at the grandstand at about 1:08 a.m., radio dzBB's James Agustin reported.

It was placed in a closed van for the trip from the church to the grandstand, according to an updated dzBB report.

Also transported there was a replica image, which would be used in the Pahalik once the actual image's procession to Quiapo Church starts.

Photos tweeted by dzBB's Agustin showed many of the devotees crowding around the image, which is believed to have miraculous powers.

Another photo tweeted by GMA News' Vonne Aquino showed Quiapo Church rector Msgr. Jose Clemente Ignacio with some of the devotees at the grandstand.

At the grandstand, devotees would be allowed to line up to get near the image and touch it during the Pahalik that started shortly after 4 a.m.

Several devotees were already at the grandstand, some since 9 p.m. Wednesday. The line extended to Katigbak Drive as of 4 a.m.

Senior citizens and those with infants and those with disabilities were given priority.

Following the overnight vigil, devotees are to accompany the image back to Quiapo Church via the Traslacion.  — Joel Locsin/ELR/KG, GMA News
