Motorists with vehicle plate numbers ending in 7 and 8 will get a bye from the number coding system on Thursday, the Lunar New Year.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said this in a post on its Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

"The number coding scheme is LIFTED tomorrow February 19, 2015. (Including Makati and Las Piñas)," it said.

Earlier, Malacañang said Thursday, Feb. 19, is a special non-working day to mark the Lunar New Year.

Under the number coding system, vehicles cannot pass major roads in Metro Manila from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the last digit of their license plates.

Covered by the number coding on Monday are vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays. — Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
