Court stops construction of new int’l school along Katipunan

A Quezon City court has issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) preventing city officials from allowing the Multiple Intelligence International School to build a campus in an area along Katipunan Avenue.

"The public respondents are hereby enjoined from enforcing the locational clearance issued by the Quezon City Planning and Development Office; from issuing or granting a Building Permit or other permits to respondent MIIS," said Judge Manuel Sta Cruz of the  QC Regional Trial Court Branch 226 in a three-page resolution dated March 24, 2015.

According to Barangay Blue Ridge A Kagawad Marie Mendoza, the TRO was in response to a petition filed by their residents along with other affected communities last February.

The area in Katipunan Avenue along Barangay Blue Ridge A was classified as a Special Urban Development Zone in a revised zoning ordinance published in a newspaper last 2013.

The ordinance disallows the construction of any additional schools in the area, Mendoza said.

Mendoza said that the area also placed potential MIIS students and staff in danger since it is just over 300 meters from the West Valley Fault, which is prone to earthquakes.
