Himself bed-ridden due to third-degree burns and having lost one of his children in the fire, one of the owners of Kentex Manufacturing Corp. apologized to the families of the more than 70 persons who were killed in the blaze that hit its slipper factory and warehouse in Valenzuela City last week.

"Humihingi ako ng sorry sa lahat ng nawalan ng buhay. Sana bigyan niyo ako ng pagkakataon," Terrence King Ong told GMA News on Tuesday.

Ong, who's bed-ridden in a hospital due to severe burns from the fire, also promised victims that the firm would not run from any responsibility and accountability.

"As you see, how can I run? That's completely false," Ong said.

Kentex already made an initial payout of P8,000 to families of victims and survivors in addition to unpaid salary. -Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
