Cardinal Tagle names secretary new rector of Manila Cathedral
Effective July 1, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle's secretary will be the new rector of the historic Manila Cathedral.
Fr. Reginald Malicdem is one of the priests in the Archdiocese who will assume new positions at the start of the second half of the year.
Malicdem, who also served as personal secretary of retired Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, will replace cathedral rector Msgr. Nestor Cerbo, who was assigned to the Saint John the Baptist Parish in San Juan City, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines news site noted.
“Please pray for me as I take on another responsibility,” it quoted Malicdem as saying. Malicdem, who was ordained in 2004, will retain his post as Manila archbishop's secretary.
The CBCP noted Malicdem, 37, will be the youngest priest to become rector of the historic cathedral. This will also be his first parish assignment, it added.
Quiapo Church, San Carlos Seminary
The CBCP noted Tagle appointed San Carlos Seminary rector Msgr. Hernando Coronel as the new rector of the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene (Quiapo Church).
Coronel will succeed Msgr. Clemente Ignacio, who was appointed as administrator of Bahay Pari, San Carlos Pastoral Formation Complex in Makati City.
Ignacio is also reportedly taking a position in the archdiocesan curia.
Coronel had served as rector of Manila Cathedral from 1996 to 2002. He was also CBCP secretary general from 2002 to 2007.
