The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has resumed its operations although service was limited only to its Tutuban, Manila–Calamba, Laguna, route, a report on “News TV Live” said Thursday.

The resumption of operations was originally scheduled last June 15 but it was moved as the management saw the need to ensure that all the rails were functional for the safety of the passengers.

The PNR's operations was suspended for almost three months after one of its trains was derailed in Pasay City, injuring 58 passengers, on April 29.

Investigation showed the cause for derailment was stolen rail tracks. The suspects who allegedly stole the tracks and sold them to a junk shop have already been arrested, the report said.

The PNR's earliest train for Friday, July 24 will be launched on 5:59 a.m. at the Nichols station. —Andrei Medina/KBK, GMA News
