Southern Police District deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias, the police official who confronted Vice President Jejomar Binay during a political standoff in Makati City in June, will assume a new post Tuesday.
"He will assume tomorrow as OIC, EPD [officer-in-charge, Eastern Police District]. I'll preside his assumption 2 p.m. bukas at EPD HQs [headquarters]," National Capital Region Police Office chief Joel Pagdilao told GMA News Online on Monday.
Jamias had a heated discussion with Binay after the police barred the family's supporters from entering the Makati City Hall compound while they were waiting for a second suspension order against Makati Mayor Junjun Binay to be served.
Footage captured by GMA News during the incident showed Binay telling Jamias: "Marahas ka sa tao." Binay also warned Jamias: "Basta sinasabi ko lang sa iyo, mag-aaway tayo. Lalabanan ka namin."
The police official said they were doing their job to maintained peace and order, which prompted the vice president to reply, "Bakit mo hinaharang, wala namang nanggugulo?"
Following the incident, Jamias said he will press charges against the vice president for allegedly threatening his men to leave the premises.
"Hindi ako papayag na isang vice president ay labagin ang batas dahil dapat ang Vice President nga, pasalamatan ang kapulisan dahil nagme-maintain ng peace and order," he said.
