The 10-wheeler truck that ploughed through at least seven vehicles along A. Bonifacio Avenue in Marikina City where two were killed lost its brakes, a report from GMA's “Balitanghali” said Thursday.

The truck's passenger, Renante Nanoy, said they tried driving the truck into what they thought was the river.

“Sabi niya: 'Wala na tayong preno.' Akala ko sa ilog iyon. Kaya ihulog mo na, baka ilog iyan,” he said.

Meanwhile, the representative of the truck's owner said they will extend aid to those hurt as well as to the families who lost loved ones in the crash.

Two people were killed and 14 were injured, including the truck driver Fernando Favillar, in the accident before Wednesday noon.

Favillar is currently under police custody and may face multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries charges. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
