Cops find getaway vehicle in double murder of DepEd exec’s wife, maid
Authorities have found the getaway vehicle allegedly used by the suspect in the killing of the wife of a Department of Education (DepEd) official and their househelp, a TV report said Friday.
In his live report on Balitanghali, GMA News' John Consulta said the vehicle believed to have been used by suspect John Adrianne Edquilang was found at around 6 a.m.
The investigating team from the Manila Police District found items inside the car that still had traces of blood, he added.
The victims, stabbed to death inside their home in Sta. Ana, Manila, were identified as Lucita Mengguito, 50, wife of DepEd regional assistant director for NCR Ponciano Mengguito, and Jennifer Magtulis, 18.
Edquilang, who earlier claimed he didn't go to the house, backtracked his earlier statement, saying he did go there, the report said.
The suspect, however, maintained that he did not have anything to do with the murder of his mother-in-law, saying Magtulis may have committed it.
He added that he was attacked by the househelp, and he killed her out of self-defense.
Despite his denial, authorities said they consider the double murder raps against Edquilang to be an airtight case, as the evidence is strong.
The suspect is expected to undergo inquest proceedings within the day. —Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/KBK, GMA News
