Clapping for gov’t and church officials no longer allowed in Parañaque churches
The Catholic Church's Diocese of Parañaque has barred clapping for government and church officials after Mass, a report on News To Go on Friday said.
Fr. John Francis Manlapig said the liturgy does not allow for time to recognize the service of people.
But he added that clapping will be permitted during special occasions, such as parish celebrations and festivals honoring patron saints.
The report noted that Catholics have been used to clapping at the end of the Mass to signify thanksgiving.
Fr. Manlapig clarified that the clapping at the end of the Mass is a gesture of thanksgiving for God's grace and not to honor any person for his or her accomplishment. —KG, GMA News
