Newly-installed Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio has prohibited his men from having days off during weekends.

A report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali on Saturday said that according to Tinio, more crimes tend to happen during weekends as more people go to the malls and other public places during their rest days.

"During weekends, tumataas yung krimen kasi po, pansinin ninyo halos lahat ng empleyado, yun ang panahon nila para [magpahinga]," he said "So doon po may opportunity 'yung mga pickpockets, mga salisi, kaya po isa po yan sa mga tinututukan natin," Tinio said.

The order was released during the start of the "ber" months, when more people are expected to go to malls and other public places for Christmas shopping.

The report said based on information from the National Capital Region Police Office, Quezon City has the highest crime rate in Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana said they will impose stricter rules against their tardy police personnel.

"Ang police population ratio is 1:1000, so kung mawala ang isang police dyan, minus mo na yung 1,000 na kine-cater nila kaya napakahalaga ng presence ng pulis," he said.
