(Updated 6:37 p.m.) Incumbent San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez on Thursday filed her certificate for candidacy (COC) for her re-election bid.
Gomez, who has a child with former President Joseph Estrada, was joined by her running mate Janelle Ejercito and their candidate for district representative in Congress Jana Ejercito.
Both Jana, a former San Juan councilor, and Janelle, an incumbent councilor, are scions of the Ejercito-Estrada clan.
Gomez, who is seeking re-election for her third and final term, will go against Vice Mayor Francis Zamora, son of San Juan Rep. Ronaldo Zamora, an ally of Estrada.
Mother of Sen. JV Ejercito, Gomez previously stated that she felt betrayed by Francis Zamora's decision to run for mayor, saying she had treated him like a son.
The younger Zamora, on the other hand, said he decided to run for mayor to stop the Ejercito-Estrada clan from establishing a political dynasty in San Juan. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
