Clearing ops in Black Nazarene Traslacion route target ‘zero vendors’ on Saturday

Clearing operations continued Friday in preparation for the annual Traslacion procession of the Black Nazarene in Manila on Saturday, a report on News To Go on Friday said.

Authorities said they are targeting "zero vendors" along the procession route, GMA News' Mav Gonzales said.

Shops on Villalobos Street leading to Quiapo Church were already closed as of Friday, and hardly anyone was at the old market.

One of those left at the old market is a man named Randy who was getting ready to leave the area.

He added he and the other vendors don't mind that they are not allowed to sell on the Feast of Black Nazarene itself. "Every year naman 'yon. Minsan lang naman 'yon," he said.

Stalls on Palanca Street and those outside Quinta Market were also closed as of Friday.

However, there were some who hung around to sell Nazareno items, such as T-shirts ranging from P100 to P120. Sando shirts, on the other hand, went for P50 to P60 each. Towels were being sold for P20.

Vendors said they expect sales to peak on Friday afternoon and during the feast itself on Saturday. —KG, GMA News
