The Manila International Airport Authority said taxis are not allowed to impose dollar rates on passengers from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday said.

MIAA added it will conduct random inspections at NAIA terminals to ensure taxi drivers will not abuse passengers.

A GMA News To Go report on Tuesday said taxi drivers outside NAIA are using fake dollar rate cards to dupe foreign passengers.

Taxi drivers would reportedly show foreigners the cards, where destinations are listed with corresponding dollar rates.

The report said the lowest rate indicated on the card is $25 or P1,175.

It said the rate cards are laminated and have the logos of the Department of Tourism and Philippine Airlines.

Even local residents have been at the mercy of abusive taxi drivers at NAIA.

The TV report cited the case of a woman named Julie who was charged P800 for a trip from NAIA to a bus terminal in Cubao.

The Airport Transport Concessionaires Association Inc. said colorum taxis are the ones behind the modus.

"Malaking bagay talaga sa amin 'yan kaya lang 'di talaga amin 'yan. Kolorum 'yan. Sa labas 'yan," they said.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairman Winston Ginez said taxis are not authorized to impose dollar rates on passengers.

The LTFRB said it will also send personnel to NAIA to help in monitoring taxi cabs. —KG, GMA News
