A nanny has been detained at Station Three of the Quezon City Police District after she was caught on a spy camera video hurting the one-year-old child who was placed under her care, Bernadette Reyes reported on GMA News' "24 Oras."

The footage taken on Wednesday showed the nanny, identified as Rowena Arabit, hitting the child when her ward refused to eat.

“Bigla nya binatukan on top of the audio ng TV, narinig pa iyong lagatok sa ulo ng baby, sukat na sumama head ng baby sa impact,” the mother of the child said.

When the mother of the child saw the video, she immediately took Arabit to the police. Arabit admitted her wrongdoing.

“Sabi po niya may problema lang siya noong time na iyon sa pamilya niya kaya niya nagawa iyon pero hindi naman daw talaga niya ginagawa ng pananakit,” the mother of the child said.

“Ang masakit po tinuring namin siya na kadugo, na hindi iba samin,” she said.

Arabit is facing child abuse raps. She refused to face the camera but she said she did not want to hurt the child.

“Hindi ko naman po kagustuhan, kumbaga nagbigla lang po ako,” she said.

Because of this incident, QCPD Station 3 investigation section chief SPO2 Harry Budomo reminded homeowners to be discerning in choosing househelps and nannies.

“Mas maganda kung kilala kukunin nila. Hanapan nila ng barangay, police, o kaya’y NBI [National Bureau of Investigation] clearance para may reference sila kung may kaso katulong o wala,” he said. -Trisha NB, GMA News
