25 minors rounded up in Quezon City for violating curfew ordinance
Around 25 minors rounded up by security officers in a barangay in Quezon City for violation of the curfew ordinance.
A report by Jay Sabale on Unang Balita said loitering minors were accosted in Barangay E. Rodriguez Sr. at around 2 a.m.
Some teenagers staying in computer shops were also rounded up by barangay security officers.
The barangay's Peace and Security Office (BPSO) said parents of the apprehended minors have been informed and asked to appear at their office.
“Nandiyan po ‘yung ibang mga magulang na minsan kapag hinuhuli ‘yung anak nila, imbis na matuwa, nagagalit pa po sa amin,” said BPSO Assistant Team Leader Roberto Gabotero in Barangay E. Rodriguez.
On Sunday night, presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte said that he will implement a nationwide curfew for minors.
Duterte said he will order the arrest of parents of the curfew violators.
Under Quezon City's Ordinance No. 2301 or the QC Discipline Hours for Minors, residents who are under 18 years of age are prohibited from loitering in public places from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Under the ordinance, parents and guardians of minors who will be caught violating the curfew the first time will be fined P2,000 or be required to render community service for 48 hours.
For the second offense, parents the curfew violators will be penalized with a fine of P3,000 or a 72-hour community service.
Parents of third time offenders will face a fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months.
The minors who will violate the ordinance for more than three times will be turned over to the care of the social services development department of the city. —Kiersnerr Gerwin Tacadena/ALG, GMA News
